I. Introduction
Yanshan University European Institute is the first overseas institute of Yanshan University and an overseas campus of Yanshan University in Poland. Established by Yanshan University in cooperation with Silesian University of Technology, it is an effort of Yanshan University to implement the international development strategy in response to the Chinese Government’s "Belt and Road" Initiative, aiming to foster high-quality open-minded talents with global edges and vision.
Yanshan University European Institute enrolls both Chinese and international students, mostly international students. The Institute implements mutual registration of Chinese and foreign students, mutual recognition of credits and exchanges of courses. The Chinese students enrolled by the Institute have a four-year academic system in the "1 + 3" training mode, which means studying in Yanshan University campus in the first academic year, and in the Polish campus in the second through the fourth academic years. The overseas students enrolled have a 3-year academic system, and they can choose to either study in the Polish campus, or study in Yanshan University campus for 1-2 semesters. During the study period in the Polish campus, Chinese and foreign students will attend classes together, and all courses are taught in English.
Students, who have completed the training program and obtained the required credits in Yanshan University and Silesian University of Technology and meet the graduation requirements and degree awarding requirements, can obtain the Undergraduate Graduation Certificate and Bachelor's Degree Certificate issued by Yanshan University as well as the Bachelor's Degree Certificate issued by Silesian University of Technology in Poland. The Bachelor's Degree Certificate issued by Silesian University of Technology is the same as that issued in Poland and is recognized in Poland.
Silesian University of Technology, founded in 1945, is an institution of higher learning under the "Program of Create a Top Research University in Europe" supported by the Polish government. It is one of the "Top Ten Excellent Research Universities" in Poland, and ranks 28th in the list of universities in Eastern European countries, 11th in the national university rankings of Poland., and 4th among the national universities of science and technology in the country. It has the top level supercomputing center in Europe.
II. Cultivating Characteristics
Yanshan University European Institute aims to cultivate high-level and composite talents with international vision, world-class communication level and global competitiveness. By integrating the characteristics of higher education talent training in China and Poland, the Institute combines the educating characteristics of Yanshan University and the school running concept of "Open Your Mind" of Silesian University of Technology into the talent training process, and develops a new talent training mode, curriculum system and teaching methods, in order to cultivate international professional talents such as engineers and entrepreneurs who will adapt to future scientific and technological progress and industrial development.
After graduation, students can continue to study for Master's Degree in the same major of Silesian University of Technology in Poland, or apply to other world-famous universities for further study. Meanwhile, they are also qualified for applying for "recommended excellent undergraduate graduates to study for postgraduate without examination" of Yanshan University. Graduates will be offered broad employment opportunities, including domestic and foreign scientific research institutions, high-tech enterprises, large state-owned enterprises or private enterprises with foreign-related business, and foreign enterprises, where they will engage in scientific research and development, technical exchange and product marketing.
III. Majors under Enrollment
Yanshan University European Institute has five undergraduate majors: mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, electrical engineering and automation, automation, chemical engineering and technology, and electronic science and technology.
Yanshan University European Institute opened the recruitment for the first time in 2021, and 66 Chinese students were enrolled. They will head for the Polish campus for study in September 2022. The recruitment of overseas students was officially launched in the spring semester of 2022.
