The second video exchange conference between Yanshan University (YSU) and Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) was held at 4:00 p.m. Beijing time on November 17 (10:00 am local time in Botswana). Based on the signed friendly cooperation agreement, both sides discussed such issues as launching international Chinese language education programs and promoting mutual interactions of teachers and students. The conference was attended by the Head of International Office and Center for General Education of Enterprise Management and Entrepreneurship of BIUST, LU Jun, Head of Office of International Cooperation of YSU, ZHU Hong, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation of YSU, and relevant staff.
On behalf of YSU, LU Jun, Head of Office of International Cooperation, said that both sides had realized great scope for cooperation and areas of mutual interest through bilateral deep exchanges. This conference will help promote the exchange of students and reciprocal visits of teachers for common development. YSU will actively provide support in effectively deepening the bilateral cooperation in education, laying a foundation for mutual amicable relations.
Patricia Makepe, Director of the Center for General Education of Enterprise Management and Entrepreneurship, Tsaona Mokgwathi, Director of the Department of Social Sciences of the Center, Tshegofatso V. Kesamang, Administrative Director of the Department of Commerce, and Professor MA Wenhui, International Coordinator, unanimously expressed their willingness to carry out multi-level and wide-ranging exchanges and cooperation with YSU, focus on joint development of education and teaching programs, and introduce Chinese teachers and coordinate their domestic and international educational resources to form a new joint force, so as to set the stage for future cooperation and exchanges between the two universities.
Both sides discussed and exchanged in detail their cooperation fields, the demand for teachers in international Chinese language education, exchange of students and teachers, and unanimously agreed to strengthen exchanges in technology and personnel and joint supervision of students by launching a series of programs such as Chinese language and culture in the early stage.
Botswana is an inland country in southern Africa, with Gaborone as its capital. AS one of the countries with fast economic development and good economic conditions in Africa, it has 40 higher education institutions. BIUST is the second-ranked public university in the country, located in an eastern town of Palapye, and also Botswana’s only institution integrating science, technology, engineering and mathematics. BIUST is strongly supported by Botswana government, with a former president as its principal, and its graduation ceremony attended by the president or government officials each year.
