[Report from News Center] It was learned recently that the application by YSU to establish the European College of YSU in Poland has been approved by the Department of Education, Hebei Province. As the first overseas educational institution of YSU, the European College of YSU is established in Poland as required by the Guidelines for Overseas Education of Higher Education Institutions (Trial) issued by the Ministry of Education in 2019. The approval of establishment of the European College of YSU marks a new breakthrough of the overseas school-running work based on the high-quality educational resources and a milestone in the improvement of international education of YSU.

European College of YSU was established by YSU in cooperation with Silesian University of Technology of Poland. Both parties signed a formal cooperation agreement on February 8, 2021. It is the mission of European College of YSU to cultivate high-level compound talents with the international vision and communication skills, and global competitiveness. European College of YSU will enroll the European and Chinese students. 3-year schooling system applies to the European students, who study in YSU during 1-2 semesters; 4-year schooling system applies to Chinese students, who study in YSU for the first year and in Silesian University of Technology for the next three years. Five undergraduate majors are offered first by European College of YSU, including the Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, Electronic Science and Technology, Automation, Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Electrical Engineering and Automation.

Silesian University of Technology is one of the largest universities of science and technology in Poland, with nearly 70 years of successful experiences in terms of education, R&D and industrial cooperation, and has obvious advantages in science and engineering education. It ranks 11th among all universities and 5th among universities of science and technology in Poland. Silesian University of Technology was selected one of the 10 outstanding research universities of Poland to participate in the competition for top academic centers in Europe and the world according to the program of "Excellent Program - Research Institutes" proposed by Science Constitution in 2019. Silesian University of Technology and YSU have a high degree of compatibility in engineering disciplines, and have the advantages of powerful cooperation.

According to the agreement, the student training program of the European College of YSU is jointly formulated by YSU and Silesian University of Technology. All students will be registered at both YSU and Silesian University of Technology. Students who meet the graduation and degree-granting requirements of both YSU and Silesian University of Technology are going to receive the graduate certificate from YSU and bachelor degree certificates both from YSU and Silesian University of Technology. Relying on the overseas education, European College of YSU is intended to realize a two-way closed-loop exchange model for students studying abroad and in China. YSU is committed to enhance the building of international faculties while enriching the training model of talents.

The establishment of the European College of YSU in Poland by YSU is a major measure for actively responding to the "Belt and Road" initiative, fully implementing the international development strategy, cultivating the high-quality international talents with global competitiveness and vision, and continuously strengthening the international influence and the openness of education, and also a specific action for thoroughly implementing the national requirements for opening up education in the new era and promoting the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" education plan. It will greatly enhance the international schooling level and influence of YSU, expand the breadth and depth of international cooperation and exchanges, improve the international training of talents and further contribute to the "double first-class" development of YSU.
